Welcome to Room 28

Term 1
During these first few weeks of the term, I have been very pleased with the effort made by the children to transition smoothly back into school and classroom routines. It has been wonderful to see the students of Room 28 already showing initiative and independence in our classroom.
Congratulations to Maria-Bella and Jye who have been elected as our Student Councillors. I'm sure you will both do a fantastic job representing our class this semester.

Assembly
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all students from Room 28 and Room 30 for hosting the first Junior Assembly for 2019 last Friday. The students worked very hard for a week and a half leading up to it, including learning their speaking parts, remembering songs and actions and completing poems for the WOW Writing Boards. Thank you to parents and families who were able to attend and also to those who helped their children to remember their lines. The students worked tirelessly and Miss Wright and myself were so proud of the way they conducted themselves and performed.
Happy little vegemite's from Room 28 and Room 30
I would also like to acknowledge Shanuel, Aelah and Laura for receiving Merit Certificates. Milla was awarded the Values Award of Respect and Patience and Eddie was presented with Room 28's Science Award.
Congratulations Shanuel, Aelah and Laura on your well-deserved Merit Certificates!
Fantastic work Eddie and Milla, I am so proud of you!

Parent Information Evening

Apologies again for having to postpone parent information night last week. I will endeavour to reschedule it for next week (Week 5) and will notify you as soon as a time and day have been confirmed.

Homework
Homework will be commencing this week and our homework changeover day will be Thursdays. I have run through the expectations of homework with the children, however, if you or your child have any queries please do not hesitate to ask. Please ensure you are checking your child's homework folder regularly for any written communication from the school or myself.

Practice Time (20 minutes)
Reading - home reading
Spelling - phonic/sight words list
Numeracy - basic number facts/tables
Numeracy - word problems

  • Homework is to be managed by the student.
  • The same work standards are expected - writing in pencil, neat handwriting and neat ruling up.
  • Students must bring their homework into school every morning for checking and signing.
  • Above all else, reading should be made a priority. Work with your child on fluency, expression and comprehension.

Studyladder
Studyladder will be used at school during the year to support the children's learning. I have given the children access to their own Studyladder accounts for additional home practice. I will add tasks to be completed at home if they wish.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

TypingClub

This year, the children of Room 28 are learning to touch type. TypingClub teaches children to use the correct finger positioning and the children have been thoroughly enjoying this part of the day. I encourage children to use the typing program at home when possible, but it is imperative that they are using the correct finger positioning and not defaulting back to using their two index fingers. Whilst I am aware that some parents would prefer not to let their child on the home computer/laptop, I encourage you to do so as it is vital that they get as much practice as possible. I will be teaching them how to find the website, how to log in and how to use a computer responsibly at school, which will make this process easier for you at home.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

Parent Survey
A Parent Survey will be sent home with your child this week. Please take the time to complete and return this to me by Tuesday of next week (Week 5). The more information, the better!
